Bailey Hall, University of Minnesota
St. Paul, MN
Bailey Hall is a student dormitory constructed in 1949 with addition in 1981. In 2005, the University decided it was time to update the front desk and the shower rooms.
The primary goals for the front desk were to (1) make the customer side wheelchair accessible, (2) to improve digital technology and (3) to improve overall appearance.
The primary goals for the shower room upgrades were to (1) provide wheelchair accessibility (2) resurface the showers with ‘solid-surface’ Corian to eliminate the cleaning and mold problems associated with tile mortar.
The project was on a very tight construction schedule since it could not start until the day students vacated after spring semester and had to be complete the day students moved in prior to the start of fall semester.
